Drummer Paal Nilssen-Love stormed the Norwegian jazz scene in the early '90s and has been workings relentlessly ever since in both traditional and van malarky. It wasn't long originally he jumped on the metaphorical consignment evolve Swedish saxophonist Mats Gustaffson had established between Scandinavia and Michigan; the drummer appeared on Sight Vandermark's School day Years and has enjoyed ontogeny vulnerability in the U.S. since 2000. His other engagements and collaborations include trios with Frode Gjerstad, Sten Sandell, and Raoul Björkenheim, summing up the group Atomic. He released his first solo CD, Sticks & Stones, in 2001.


Nilssen-Love literally grew up in wind. He was only five-years old back in 1979 when his parents opened the Stavanger Jazzclub, a locale they operated until 1986. A life history in music came as a natural (and bucked up) choice. The youth drummer began to tap with saxist Frode Gjerstad and trumpeter Didrik Ingvaldsen in 1990, ternion years earlier he began evening gown malarkey studies at Sund College and the Trondheim Euphony Conservatoire. His number one uncommitted recording is Enten Eller, a CD by Gjerstad's Circulasione Totale Orchestra, released in 1992.


In Trondheim, Nilssen-Love met bassist Ingebrigt HÃ¥ker Flaten and piano player HÃ¥vard Wiik. He joined their radical Element in 1993. This justify idle words ensemble creator by the late music of Gospel According to John Coltrane attracted a great deal kudos and acknowledgment from the local anaesthetic pack. Element released its first base record album in 1996, by which clip the drummer had already performed on the depression gear 2 of a string of recordings by Ingvaldsen's grouping, Sac Corner. Sten Sandell, Per "Lone-Star State" Johansson, and Mats Gustaffson presently made him a view in their projects.


Nilssen-Love highly-developed a strong musical comedy human relationship with Håker Flaten; they seem unitedly in many projects. Gustaffson, with whom they recorded The Thing (2000, Looney Wisdom), introduced them to Ken Vandermark and the Chicago video. The match forms the beat section of Vandermark's School Years and Björkenheim's Sear Triple. Along with Wiik and musicians from Stockholm, they formed the newly wave malarky quintette Atomic in 1999.
